East West Rail is a new railway connecting communities between Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge. It will make journeys simpler, quicker and more reliable. That means more employment and education opportunities within easy reach, giving people across the region more travel choices.
For people in Bucks, Milton Keynes and Bletchley areas, East West Rail means more than just new rail services. A modernised Bletchley station with much quicker and more direct links into the town will make everyday journeys easier, improve quality of life and deliver a huge boost to the local economy.
The benefits of EWR for Bucks, Milton Keynes and Bletchley
More than three million pounds has already been invested in Bletchley station, introducing new high-level platforms to serve East West Rail services. What’s more, we will transform the existing entrance to the station with a new, expanded ticket hall, a redesigned and more welcoming approach, and brand new walking, wheeling and cycling links that connect into Bletchley and Milton Keynes creating a key gateway for local journeys and regional travel.
A new eastern entrance to Bletchley station will create a new gateway, making it easier and quicker to walk into town. This will unlock the wider regeneration of the town centre, attract more workers and visitors, and support local businesses.
The Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire areas will become the beating heart of the UK’s economic growth ambitions with multi-billion pound investment already starting – like the new Universal theme park at Stewartby. Travel to and from the region will be transformed by East West Rail, allowing interconnecting travel across the whole of the UK via existing major railway routes.
East West Rail will provide more options to travel in ways that are better for you and the environment, which will reduce congestion on local roads and support cleaner air across the area.
More frequent train services, modernised stations and improved walking, wheeling and cycling routes will make everyday journeys more simple and enjoyable. Whether you are commuting to work, travelling to college, meeting friends in town or heading out for the evening, East West Rail will improve your journey.
East West Rail will be electrified along some sections of the route – including at Bletchley and Milton Keynes – and onboard batteries will power the trains along the other sections.
