At EWR Co we’re committed to putting environmental considerations at the heart of proposals for the new East West Rail connection. We know how important it is that the railway is constructed, operated and maintained in an environmentally responsible way that minimises negative environmental impacts.
To help local communities along the EWR route learn more about the many environmental features we’re considering when developing proposals we recently created an interactive environment map. This map was built using open source environmental information from independent organisations and identifies features such as flood plains and key wildlife habitats.
We know the environment is important to you too. Since the map was published on the Community Hub it has been viewed more than 4,600 times. You asked us to change some features of the maps and we’ve worked to address these:
You said
You couldn’t see your village on the map.
We did
We have now changed the map so details about more villages are shown.
You said
Some footpaths and bridleways were missing on the map.
We did
We have contacted more local authorities for data so we can add more detail about footpaths and bridleways.
You said
That the swathe made it look like the preferred route option had changed.
We did
We investigated the map and confirmed that the preferred route option swathe has not changed since it was published in January 2020.
