Feedback helps shape updated design proposals

Back to Latest stories

We’ve published a new You Said, We Did report which unveils major updates to our plans for the new rail line linking Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge. These changes have been informed by thousands of public responses and detailed technical work.

The latest designs contain more than 80 updates to the plans we presented at our last consultation, these include:

  • London Road level crossing (Bicester): Plans now include the option of a single-lane underpass for cars and vans, plus a safe route for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Bletchley Station: A new eastern entrance is being planned to improve connectivity between the station and the town centre
  • Marston Vale Line: We will consolidate nine existing stations into four modern, accessible stations — including one at Stewartby, designed to support Universal Studios’ proposed resort
  • Tempsford: Confirming Alignment 1c – a less disruptive route and a new station on the East Coast Mainline will be delivered five years earlier than originally planned .
  • Cambourne station: Relocating the station 700m to the west, providing better connectivity to Cambourne town centre and avoids green spaces
  • Bourn Airfield: Switching to a mined tunnel to cut disruption and protect the environment.
  • Cambridge Station: A new eastern entrance from Clifton Road
  • Cambridge East: Exploring a new station near Coldham’s Lane to improve access and ease pressure on the city’s main station.

David Hughes, CEO, EWR Co, said: “These updates reflect our commitment to listening to communities while designing a railway that delivers long-term benefits for the region. Our latest proposals better reflect what matters most to people and will deliver better outcomes for passengers, local communities and the environment.”
