East West Rail appoints new Engineering, Technical and Safety Director

Were delighted to welcome a new Engineering, Technical and Safety Director to East West Rail (EWR).

Andrew Went has a strong and proven track record within the rail industry and is currently Head of Rail Engineering at Arup, and also a Board Member at the Railway Industry Association. With consistent backing from consecutive governments, we are now progressing with detailed designs for the railway and Andrew will play a key role in taking the project forward 

We are thrilled that Andrew is joining our team. This is an exciting time for East West Rail and Andrew’s unparalleled experience will be vital as we continue to develop and refine our plans to reconnect Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge. East West Rail is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver benefits to the region with a new fast, affordable and sustainable public transport solution – connecting communities between Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge. 

As one of Britain’s most significant transport projects, East West Rail has the potential to boost the local economy by £6.7 billion per year by 2050.  

Andrew Went will begin work on East West Rail in the Spring. He will lead our company’s design work as we prepare for our upcoming Statutory Consultation and subsequent DCO submission.
