EWR seeks passionate local students for summer internship programme – apply today!

Today we’re excited to announce that in partnership with global solutions provider, Jacobs, we’re seeking brilliant engineering or digital undergraduates to complete 10-week summer placements at East West Railway Company (EWR Co).

The paid internships, which will start in early July 2022, will give the students exceptional quality, hands-on experience of working at the heart of our exciting EWR project. Open to those doing relevant degrees and living or studying between Oxford and Cambridge (Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire), we’re looking for:

Each intern will be partnered with a mentor who will help them to identify areas of learning and will support them to ensure they leave with a high-quality portfolio. As well as gaining valuable real-world industry experience, the interns will be able to access a range of networks across Jacobs, benefiting from making new contacts and learning from the experiences of others.

The internships are part of our long-term commitment to improve social mobility locally through mentoring and paid internships. This programme of work aims to leave a lasting legacy that increases prosperity and improves wellbeing for local communities between Oxford and Cambridge.

Simon Scott, Engineering Director at EWR Co, said:

“We’re looking for creative and passionate students to help us at this exciting time for East West Rail. The variety of activity along the route – from early-stage planning in some places to construction in others – means our interns will gain a broad range of experience. We will provide unlimited learning opportunities and space for growth and in return we look forward to learning from the fresh perspectives and the unique insights our interns will bring. We can’t wait to watch them flourish as they take their next steps towards successful careers in engineering and emerging digital technologies.”

John Pelton, EWR Programme Director at Jacobs, said:

“We’re committed to nurturing the next generation of engineers and technical professionals, securing a strong pipeline of talent for the infrastructure industry and providing opportunities for young people to work on career-defining projects. East West Rail is at the forefront of the changing rail industry landscape and we’re excited to be able to offer students the chance to help shape the innovations and systems we’re creating. We look forward to finding some of the most talented and passionate future engineers and digital specialists in the region and welcoming them into Jacobs.”

We’re accepting applications from anyone who lives or studies in the areas between Oxford and Cambridge (Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire) and is currently studying for a relevant degree. Ideally, applicants will be happy to work remotely and independently, with the ability to travel to Milton Keynes, London and the area between Oxford and Cambridge as required.

The paid internships are full-time and we're happy to discuss flexible working options. More information can be found below.
